Intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted MR imaging of gliomas: feasibility of the method and initial results. Neuroradiology 55, 1189–1196, 10.1007/s00234-013-1229-7 To investigate the usefulness of intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) in discriminating the pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of conventional diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) DWI in discriminating benign and malignant metastatic retropharyngeal nodes (RPNs). As both intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) modeling and dynamic contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE‐MRI) provide perfusion parameters, IVIM‐derived perfusion parameters might be expected to correlate with the kinetic features from DCE‐MRI. Both single-shot TSE-DWI and single-shot EPI-DWI were scanned twice respectively for 15 patients with lung cancer. In this review, we discuss the principles of intravoxel incoherent motion as applied to body diffusion-weighted MRI. The evidence for the technique in measuring tissue perfusion is presented and the emerging clinical utility surveyed. The requisites and challenges of quantitative evaluation beyond simple monoexponential relationships are highlighted. Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging was performed using 12 b values: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1000 sec/mm2. To calculate IVIM parameters and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), 3 regions of interest (ROIs) were placed in the renal cortex and in the medulla, i.e., a total of 6 ROIs were used. Abbreviations: ADC = apparent diffusion coefficient, DWI = diffusion-weighted imaging, IVIM = intravoxel incoherent motion, MRI = magnetic resonance imaging, T2WI = T2-weighted imaging.
